HMS 6th Grade Summer Bridge Cougar Camp

Henderson Middle School will be hosting our annual Cougar Camp to welcome our rising 6th graders.  Cougar Camp will be held in-person on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. There will be ONE session from 9:00 a.m. - 12: 00 p.m. Students will have an opportunity to meet teachers and new classmates, participate in content activities, and tour the building. All new participants must register by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2022. Late registration will not be accepted after.  Use the links to below to access the online registration forms:
 

Summer Scholars Academy

Students in grades 3rd-8th are encouraged to enroll in the 2022 Scholars Academy Program for enrichment opportunities this summer.  CLICK HERE to download the flyer for more information or please call the Curriculum and Instruction Department of DCSD at (678) 676-0129 if you have further questions. 

MOSAIC Summer Learning Programs

The 2022 MOSAIC Summer Learning Programs link is now open for families to register for summer enrichment programs.  Please CLICK HERE to access the DCSD Summer Learning Programs webpage with program descriptions and registration links.  The programs will be held throughout the months of May, June, and July for elementary, middle, and high school students.  CLICK HERE to download a list of program descriptions.

School Building Access for Visitors

The visitor protocol in place for the 2021-2022 school year has been updated:

Visitors are now permitted in buildings, although, volunteers are still not allowed.  We will continue to monitor conditions and data provided by the Department of Public Health(DPH), the DeKalb County Board of Health (DBOH) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).  It is our sincere hope that as conditions improve, we will be able to reopen our doors and benefit from the value that our committed volunteers add to our schools and centers. 
 
We appreciate each of our volunteers and community partners.  In the interim, we will look for and we invite you to help us identify opportunities for volunteers to support our school community virtually.

Current Student/Annual Verification Application

Instead of providing proof of residency in person, parents/guardians need to upload documents to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.  To complete the annual verification process, please CLICK HERE . COVID-19 Emotional Support Line

The Georgia COVID-19 Emotional Support Line provides free and confidential assistance to callers needing emotional support or resource information as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Emotional Support Line is staffed by volunteers, including mental health professionals and others who have received training in crisis counseling.

8th Grade Dual Immersion French Students

 

Congratulations to Ms. Morrison’s 8th Grade Dual Language Immersion Students.  In March, seventeen of her students traveled to Woodward Academy to take the DELF (French Language Studies Diploma) exam.  Diplomas earned by taking this exam are issued by the French Ministry of Education and it certifies French Language abilities.  Ninety-four percent of our students passed the exam. We are proud of our French Language Cougars!  Congrats to the following students:   Zane Armstrong, Andrew Bitsko, Lilian Chan-Velasquez, Hannah Creel, Daniel Greene, Samuel Hershner, Erin Lilic, Kai Manangan, Rokhaya Ndiaye, Margo Peller, Raymond Sandres, Naomi Teklu, Julianne Trejo, Kathleen VanValkenburg, Sarah Wages, Micah Walker-Barnes, Tre White III. 


 
HMS Shares the Love at Oakgrove Elementary
 
Our HMS Cheerleaders recently helped Oak Grove Elementary promote their "Share the Love" campaign by greeting students with cheer and excitement to start their school day.  Our cheerleaders choreographed their own Oak Grove Elementary specific cheers and were excellent ambassadors for Henderson Middle School.  Thank you to our HMS Cheerleaders!
 
DeKalb District Spelling Bee Winner
Congratulations to Henderson Middle School 7th grader Augustina Marshall for taking 1st place in the DeKalb County District Spelling Bee.  She will now represent the DeKalb County School District in the Region 4 Georgia Association of Educators Spelling Bee in February. Congratulations Augustina!
 
HMS Reflections Contest Winners

 

The HMS PTSA Reflections arts contest has concluded and the results have been announced.  Congratulations to the following students for receiving awards in this year’s competition.  All 1st and 2nd place winners move on to the DeKalb County District competition.

Teacher and Educational Support Specialists of the Year
 
We are excited to announce our Teacher and Educational Support Specialists for the 2020-2021 school Year!   Our Teacher of the Year is Lorren Kelsey, interrelated teacher on Team 8A. Our  Educational Support Specialist of the Year I is Quintavius Releford, custodian, head football coach, and soccer coach. And our Educational Support Specialist of the Year II is Robin Topa, head counselor.  Congratulations to our wonderful staff members for earning this honor from their peers!
 
Greenhouse Grant
Henderson Middle School thanks our HMS Foundation for assisting Mr. Purdy and our Eco-Avengers Club in securing a grant from the Clorox Foundation for a greenhouse at HMS!  To find out more about the HMS Foundation, including upcoming meetings, please visit hmsfoundation.org.
 
Courtyard Dedication
Did you know that Henderson Middle School used to be Henderson High School?  The Henderson High School Alumni Association recently installed a dedication plaque in our school courtyard commemorating the original dedication of the courtyard in 1972.  The courtyard was constructed in memory of classmate Sinda Paige Jones by the HHS classes of 1970, 1971 and 1972.  Thank you to the Henderson High School Alumni Association for helping keep the Cougar spirit alive at Henderson Middle School!
